Love & Anguish: Then & Now

This concert presents the world premiere of some of the works recently discovered at the Bibliothèque nationale de France by 18th-century virtuoso composer Maria Teresa Agnesi. It includes arias from her operas Ciro in Armenia and L’insubria consolata. It also features the works of Brandeis University Women’s Studies Research Center scholars, writers, and composers. Love and Anguish: Then and Now portrays the suffering and the pleasures of love. “Then” is represented by the world premiere of arias written by Agnesi from her operas Ciro in Armenia and L’insubria. The “Now” is represented by the contemporary composition, Canticles, with texts written by Marguerite Bouvard with music by Ruth Lomon.
