General Manager
About Us
La Donna Musicale is a Boston-based nonprofit devoted to the discovery, preservation, and performance of music by women composers, using period instruments and historically informed performance. Its branch ensemble, Rumbarroco, explores the Latin-Baroque musical exchange between the Iberian Peninsula and the Americas, uniting diverse communities and supporting humanitarian work.
The Role
The part-time General Manager is the operational backbone of La Donna Musicale and Rumbarroco—producing concerts and events, coordinating educational outreach performances, and supporting fundraising. Reporting directly to the Founding Artistic Director, the GM oversees production logistics, manages volunteers and ticketing, and serves as the onsite lead on concert and outreach days to ensure every program runs smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full production cycle for concerts, tours, and special events, from advance planning through wrap-up.
- Coordinate venue logistics: bookings, load-in and load-out, technical and equipment needs, rehearsal space, and hospitality.
- Build and maintain production schedules and run-of-show documents for each event.
- Serve as the logistics liaison to musicians, guest artists, and production staff.
- Coordinate educational outreach performances in partner schools, including scheduling, teaching-artist logistics, and communication with school partners.
- Manage outreach documentation: session plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Serve as the primary logistical liaison to school coordinators and help ensure each outreach performance runs on time and on budget.
- Recruit, schedule, train, and supervise event volunteers (ushers, front-of-house, box office).
- Act as the main point of contact for volunteers before and during events, ensuring each person knows their role and station.
- Oversee box office operations on event days and coordinate will-call and walk-up sales.
- Track sales and reconcile receipts after each performance.
- Serve as the operational lead onsite on concert and outreach performance days.
- Coordinate front-of-house and back-of-house, volunteers, vendors, and venue staff.
- Troubleshoot issues in real time so artists and teaching artists can focus on their work.
In collaboration with the Founding Artistic Director:
- Identify grant opportunities aligned with the organization's programs, and help draft, assemble, and submit applications and reports.
- Track deadlines, deliverables, and reporting requirements across the grant calendar.
- Support promotional materials, event announcements, and media relations, coordinated with the concert and outreach calendar.
Qualifications
- Experience in arts administration, event production, or nonprofit management, ideally in a performing-arts setting.
- Grant-writing experience and strong written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, logistical, and people-management skills.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends around the concert calendar, and to travel for tour dates.
- Bonus: familiarity with early music, classical, or Latin American repertory; Spanish-language ability.
