La Donna Musicale explores the distinctive secular contributions of women composers from Paris to the French Baroque and Rococo genres of airs sérieux and airs à boire (serious and drinking songs). These song forms celebrate passionate longing and dissolute intoxication. From Julie Pinel (fl. 1737), our featured composer, we include several selections from her 1737 publication, Nouveau recueil d’airs. Music composed by unknown Parisian women and by Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre. This program highlights the luxuriant environment of an intimate Parisian salon, replete with the sounds of voices in solo, duo, and trio settings, along with flute accompaniment and supported by the captivating tones of the harpsichord and viola da gamba.

Performers:
Adriana Ruiz, soprano
Daniela Tosic, mezzo-soprano
Fausto Miro, tenor
Na’ama Lion, flute
Julia Connor, violin
Katherine Shao, keyboards
Laury Gutiérrez, viola da gamba & Renaissance guitar

Tickets: $35 Reserved; $20 General entrance; $5 Low income
